Fools For Christ...

In a world of gravest darkness,
My Lord, do I live-
Where evil is outpouring,
And the souls of men are dying;
For the truth they have rejected,
And your holy name hated.

In such a time have I been called,
With the few who walk the narrow way,
To lift your truth among their lies,
And to hold out thy Word of Life;
To be your faithful witness,
Amidst the perishing heathen.

How strange that you chose me,
So greatly flawed and wanting,
For with much fear and trembling,
Do I stand before men;
But let me ever, grow still weaker,
That God's strength might flow in me.

But you chose the weak and foolish things,
All that is low and despised,
That you might put to shame mortal strength,
And the understanding of the wise;
So the men of God's own choosing,
Might only boast in him.

For did we seek to exalt our selves,
Weakness alone would we have to show;
But only the truth of God we proclaim,
And seek to glorify his blessed name;
Yet, our worth must be nullified,
If praise and honour be to Christ.

'Fools for Christ', this is what we are
In the eyes of this fallen world;
That we will be hated for Jesus' name,
Was told us through his word;
Men's fleeting favour we would rather lose,
And preserve our God's unfailing love.

For the sake of truth we must suffer;
If that man of grace they crucified,
Why would they spare our wretched lives?
Yet his mighty name we will not deny,
For even death holds no alarm,
When we defend God's word of love!
